I was thinking of starting from the beginning of each book, and working on sight reading every piece with the metronome (my rhythm needs work too) until I can do it perfectly.ĭoes anyone have any other advice for how to get the most out of this practice? Should I limit it to 15 minutes a day or so? How many times should I play each piece (the early ones are only 8 measures long or so) until I can consider it "mistake-proof" and move on? Is it worth starting at Level 1 and moving to level 3, or should I start at the level that first really challenges me? Should I just jump in there HT or use HS even for these easier pieces? I have the theory/performance/lesson books from levels 1/2a/2b/3a/3b, as well as a few other books from the same authors (Rock and Roll, Christmas, etc.). One of my plans for working on this was to head home and dig up my old beginner piano books from Faber&Faber. It's a huge handicap that I'd like to eliminate as much as possible. ![]() ![]() One of the things I've struggled with the most in my practice is with sight reading.I absolutely cannot get by without looking at my hands for every note, and I usually have to physically "count" the intervals on sheet music once you get away from the middle A-G range.
